These puppets were made for Sabrina Hamilton's Puppet Lighting Workshop at the World Stage Design Shardjah and RWCMD. I based my garment on an 18th Century Coat Pattern by Elizabeth Friendship 'Pattern Cutting for Men's Costume'. For the black velvet coat, I decied to keep the center back vent to allow for sweeping and sitting. The side vents with pleating helped with movement and show the silhouette of the time. Anything visible needed to be lined. To sew the seams, I glued and pressed with an iron before top stitching on 1.5 for security. The hole at the back allowed for puppeteering. Lastly, for the pockets, I first top stitched to show a sense of depth before glueing the edges inward.
