During Scene 1 (Life and Death), the mother holds a baby before she slips away by the hand of death. It was important to reflect the practicalities of lighting a shadow puppetry hand through communication with Gabriella Thomas, the lighting designer. Lastly, death is symbolised through the hand and darkness, encompassing the characters.
