The goal was to portray a young child played by an adult actress. Although the show dives into fantasy, tieing the people to reality was important for balance. I referenced late 19th century poverty stricken children from workhouses and orphanages, while maintaining a sense of whimsy through color.

The character drawings were created in Photoshop.
