Trouble in Butetown - Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama

Directors: Patrick Connellan and Tara Turner
Theatre: Stiwdio Seligman
Set and Costume Design: Melody Bainbridge-Todd

Conceptual Project I designed at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Trouble in Butetown is based in Cardiff, so it was important to reflect the heritage and time period which was World War II. Within their house the floor shows the horizon line of Butetown. It is not only the building but the community which is their home.

I chose the medium watercolour to reflect magazines of the time period; because, people of different nationalities were not represented within illustrations of popular media.

For visual research, I only referenced magazines from the early 1940s, and books about the heritage of the people of Butetown.
