RepCo: Corda at RWCMD - Costume Design and Realisation | Adelia's Mother

I designed and sourced the costume for Adelia's Mother in Corda at RWCMD. While maintaining creativity, I wanted the costumes to feel grounded compared to the fantastical puppets of Adelia's imagination. For the design, purple symbolies wealth, and visually displays the fall of class within Corda. Her nightie is stained in blood, pending death. Within the mother's arms, the baby Adelia is wrapped in blue to carry over. And lastly, I chose a plaid kerchief as the performer had short hair.

Due to the performer also puppeteering, it was crucial to choose a nightie that slipped off easily for a quick change. I used a variations of red ink for the blood, and dimmed the scarf with synthtic fabric dye - grey 1 tablesoon with vinegar.
